There's something zen about Cookie Clickers, a game which boils down its gameplay to the most fundamental notions of what a game can be, and the result is both a fascinating study in human psychology and a surprisingly therapeutic experience.

There's little to boil down in the Cookie Clickers experience. You click on a big cookie which produces smaller cookies. Clicking faster rewards you with more cookies. Endless clickers have become big business, but Cookie Clickers is perhaps the most uncomplicated and stripped down example in the entire genre.

A counter at the top of the screen helpfully keeps track of how many cookies you've baked, and another counter below it tracks how many cookies you produce per second. Baked cookies can be used to buy upgrades and boosts which can further improve your productivity, but the end result is the same. There is no end game, just an increase in efficiency. Higher level upgrades allow the game to automate the clicking process for you, but the end result is ultimately the same. But it's surprisingly satisfying to see the meter slowly tick up. Cookie Clickers also comes with tracking so you can see how your cookie collection compares to that of your friends.
