Earth is a free entertainment app that lets you view a fully digital model of the Earth as it exists in real time. It accomplishes this feat thanks to various satellites orbiting the Earth. Satellite images are updated every single hour for locations in the Pacific region of the globe, and the rest of the world is updated every three hours. In some cases, satellite image data is either missing or corrupted, in which case the most recent available image data is shown.

Many people will probably recognize this as an alternate to Google Earth, and while the apps are similar, this version has a few drawbacks compared to Google Earth. First, it is no where near as detailed. You can't zoom in with this app as far as you can with Google Earth, so this app is really more for entertainment purposes. It does provide you with a decently accurate visualization of global weather patterns, so it's surprisingly useful as a weather app.

Once you've downloaded and installed the app, you simply have to open it to view the Earth. You'll instantly be greeted with the planet floating in the blackness of space, but the Earth itself is presented in brilliant blue and green.
